Boosters Need Volunteers

Can You Help?

As the spring sporting events prepare to open their seasons, the Ontario Boosters are in need of volunteers to assist in their concession stand sales. Please check their web site for more information and complete the Concession Stands form if interested in volunteering some time. Completed forms can simply be emailed to Michelle Gates at bmbtg@aol.com.

Volunteering will certainly not only benefit the Athletic Boosters organization but will also help to provide the necessary funding for the many Ontario sports programs. See the Ontario Athletic Boosters' web page for more information.

New Immies Needed for 2010-2011

Ohio is requiring that all seventh graders have a Tdap (tetnus, diphtheria and pertussis) booster. Currently, less than a third of seventh graders have received this booster. As a result, the Health Department nurses will be coming into the school in May to provide this required immunization to those who are interested. More information will be coming. Also, Ohio is requiring a second dose of the varicella vaccine for children entering kindergarten..  You can find out more by going to the ODH website.

Presenting the Ohio Governor's Show Honorees

The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition was judged this past weekend and nine Ontario High School students’ art pieces were judged to be among the best in Ohio. From the 12,000 entries selected from 15 regions across the state, approximately 2,500 pieces were selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then selected 300 for the actual exhibition, with 25 of the 300 pieces chosen to receive the Governor's Award of Excellence.

For the fifth consecutive year, an Ontario student was judged to be in the top 25.

Taking the top honors this year were Paige Henry and Brooke Trine. Other Ontario students selected for the Governor's Youth Art Exhibition were Tyler

Beal, Gabrielle Hirth, Tyler Ratliff (2 pieces), Jamey Robson, Mariah Stewart, and Hannah Stickelman.

In addition to the Governor’s Show one Ontario High School student, Mike Burwell, had his piece selected to be in a Cameo Display in the Governor’s office. Congratulations to all the students for their outstanding accomplishments. A Regional Art Show will be held at the Mansfield Art Center showcasing the area’s best artwork. The show opens with a reception on March 20th at 4 p.m. and runs through April 18.

The Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition, now in its fortieth year, is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of talented young people in the state of Ohio. The exhibition is open to all of Ohio's 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education. Their purpose is to provide all budding young artists of the state with opportunities to advance their talent, whether that be through scholarships or simply experiencing the process of entering their work in a competition. The exhibition is a valuable incentive for our young people; it encourages an appreciation for the arts throughout Ohio and reflects the fine quality of art instruction and talent which exist in our state. The state judging takes place in Columbus; however, the judges for this level of competition are chosen from all over the country and are generally professional artists, college level instructors, or both.

The exhibition opens at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower, across from the State Capitol, in April, and closes at the end of May. At the exhibition opening, students receive Awards of Excellence and scholarship awards.More information may be found at www.govart.org.

Senior class portraits from the years 1930 to 1960 along with photos from the early yearbooks are interspersed throughout the site showcasing how things have changed over the years.
